What if every string on your guitar could be a different instrument

Ok, so I really wouldn't even call this a songlet. It's more of a test. One of the cool things about hexaphonic pickups and at least this particular guitar->midi interface is that it has the ability to send string data on different MIDI channels for each string. This means that you can split each string onto it's own track that has its own instrument and other settings. So after a lot of mucking around, I finally figured out how to do this in Logic (it's neither obvious nor automatic). So here's the results of the little test I did. Note that these were not tracks recorded separately. This was all a couple of one pass recordings. No overdubbing, only some small post-recording touchups. Except for the drums. They're just a loop. And yes, I know the first part sounds a lot like Megadeth's Diadems.

http://www.fresh-hope.com/jason/Multitimbral%20Test.m4a

Magician Lord on VC

Magician Lord was released today on the Virtual Console. For those of you who may not know, Magician Lord is a kick bunbun NeoGeo platformy action game where you play this elfish dude who can change form by collecting different combinations of colored orb thingies. Each of these forms have different strengths and weaknesses. It was one of the first NeoGeo games ever released and the first I ever played. Back in 1990, seeing and hearing it for the first time was a very "ZOMG AWESOME!!!!1!!ONE" experience. I have some very good memories of this game. While it may not look like much by today's standards, it's still a fun game. I'd highly encourage you to give it a try. There's certainly much worse you could spend $10 on. Even if you don't have memories of the game, you can play it with the knowledge that I do. Hehe.

[edit] Incidentally this was also the first game I ever played on MAME and was a big reason why I got into emulation.

My only complaint is really the voiceovers before each boss battle. They seriously deserve to be on Audio Atrocities. In case you're wondering, the Japanese version isn't much better but at least the guy doesn't sound like he's about to fall asleep.

In other VC news, I'd also recommend you stay away from Samurai Ghost. While it may look nice, it's just a very meh game.
